Delegates from JKUAT visit ACEIoT to discuss potential collaboration areas

On 2nd February 2023, a delegation from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) visited the Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) to determine the education, research, and outreach programs being conducted towards forging stronger and better collaborations in common areas of interest for both institutions.

Prof. Daniel Sila, informed the ACEIoT that JKUAT and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been implementing the AFRICA-ai-JAPAN Project Phase 2 (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Project’) since June 2020. . The Project aims to establish JKUAT as a hub educational and research institution in Africa in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), particularly in the field of Agriculture and Engineering (including Computer Science). The visit is inline of the above by extending this collaboration to other african Universities and the University of Rwanda is one the targeted University and the African center of excellence will play a big role in the area of Computer Science.
The team was received by the Centre Director, Prof. Damien Hanyurwimfura who gave a brief introduction about the Centre and highlighted key achievements of the Centre from its establishment to date.

Prof. Daniel Sila, Principal of College of Agriculture Natural Resources who headed the team highlighted that the main objective of the visit was to identify the potential academic and research fields of focus for collaboration; understand and appreciate the current research environment of the Centre and identify focal persons (faculties) to promote collaborations.

Both institutions agreed on key areas of collaboration mainly in joint resource mobilisation and involving UR academic staff for benefiting the JICA-JKUAT projects as a way forward.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is situated in Juja, 36 kilometres North East of Nairobi, along Nairobi-Thika Highway.It was started in 1981 as a Middle Level College (Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT)) by the Government of Kenya with the generous assistance from the Japanese Government.
